Fitness Investments That Make a Difference Now and in Future Gains

For me, living well isn’t just about my family and friends, it is also about being the best possible person I can be through positivity and healthy habits. Number one is you! Your health and mental fitness are critical to prioritizing number two, which is your family. If you and your family are good, then priority number three, your career, will take care of itself. Without spending the time on number one, priorities two and three get compromised.

I believe fitness and positivity have helped me in my career to stay balanced. It is very hard to find time for fitness when you are the CEO, but regardless of your position and role, I cannot stress how important it truly is. The better you feel, the more productive you are, and if you are traveling, it helps with stamina and building your immune system.

Here are three ways I enjoy staying fit and active:

Run-Walking

Running—even at a conservative rate—offers a wealth of wellness benefits. Just 5 to 10 minutes of running each day can help you reduce health risks like heart attack and strokes. Plus, it helps reinforce bone and muscle strength, as well as cardiovascular fitness. I like to kick off high-energy workouts with a 1 to 1.5-mile run-walk for an effective warm-up. Weight training to complement high-intensity running is part of my regular routine, as well.

Cardio exercise doesn’t always have to be on a treadmill or track. I prefer to be out in the elements, and this also helps me practice mindfulness while I run. Some scenic routes I enjoy are Gateway Trailhead-McDowell Sonoran Preserve (in Scottsdale, AZ) and Calico Basin Trail (in Las Vegas, NV).

Biking

Biking also imparts aerobic fitness dividends, and according to Harvard Health, it is also a lot easier on your joints with less repetitive impact. In a workout session, I typically like to go about 30 miles on my regular rides. I own a variety of trail bicycles, but any bicycle will work as you are starting out. Tread is good for trail riding, and no tread is best for pavement or bike path riding. One of my favorite routes is Blue Diamond (Las Vegas, NV), an intermediate route that is 30 miles long.

Alternatively, I enjoy a competitive spin on my Peloton while at home on those rainy days when you just can’t get out or the air is poor.

Golf

Harry Vardon once said, “Don’t play too much golf. Two rounds a day are plenty.” But honestly, even though I typically hit the course for 4 hours, I could spend all day walking up and down golf course hills and playing. I love playing golf at the Scottsdale National Golf Club. As you can tell, I spend a fair amount of time commuting between Las Vegas, Scottsdale, and southern Florida. All of these areas offer wonderful golfing and golf tournament options. When I can’t golf, two of my favorite events to spectate are AT&T Pebble Beach and Lake Tahoe Classic Golf.

Running, biking and golf are three ways that I enjoy investing in my fitness. And I have these activities to thank for my feeling of wellbeing, joy, positive outlook, and confidence in my future health.
